  54. Setup.txt using Notepad with Windows 3.1. You can find the file on 
  55. Windows 95 installation disk 1. If you purchased Windows 95 on a CD-ROM, 
  56. you can find Setup.txt in the \Win95 directory.

  61. In addition to Readme.txt, Windows 95 provides the following readme 
  62. files:

  64.     Config.txt    Contains syntax information for commands you use
  65.                         with your Config.sys file.
  66.  
  67.     Display.txt    Provides information about how to configure 
  68.             and correct problems for available drivers 
  69.             and how to obtain additional display drivers. 
  70.  
  71.     Exchange.txt    Provides information to help you set up and 
  72.             run Microsoft Exchange.

  74.     Extra.txt    Provides information about where to find 
  75.             additional Windows 95 files, such as updates 
  76.             and drivers, in addition to files available 
  77.             only in the CD-ROM version of Windows 95.

  79.     Faq.txt        Answers frequently asked questions about

  82.     General.txt    Provides information about startup problems, 
  83.             the programs that come with Windows 95, disk

  135. HOW TO READ README FILES
  136. ========================

  138. When you install Windows 95, all the readme files are copied to the
  139. \Windows directory. 
  140.  
  141. To open a readme file after you install Windows 95:
  142. 1. Click the Start menu.
  143. 2. Click Run.
  144. 3. Type the name of the readme file.
  145.  
  146. Even if you haven't installed Windows 95 yet, you can still open a 
  147. readme file.
  148.  
  149. To open a readme file before you install Windows 95:
  150.  
  151. If you purchased Windows 95 on floppy disks:

  153. 1. Insert Disk 1 into drive A (or whatever drive you prefer).
  154. 2. At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following:
  155.  
  156.    a:extract.exe /a /l c:\windows win95_02.cab filename.txt
  157.  
  158. For example, if you want to open General.txt, you would type:
  159.  
  160.    a:extract.exe /a /l c:\windows win95_02.cab general.txt
  161.  
  162. 3. Change to the \Windows directory.
  163. 4. At the command prompt, type the following:
  164.  
  165.    edit filename.txt
  166.  
  167. If you purchased Windows 95 on a CD-ROM:
  168. ----------------------------------------
  169. 1. Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive (drive x in this example).
  170. 2. Change to the \Win95 directory on your CD-ROM drive.
  171. 2. At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following:
  172.  
  173.    extract.exe /a /l c:\windows win95_02.cab filename.txt
  174.  
  175. For example, if you want to open General.txt, you would type:
  176.  
  177.    extract.exe /a /l c:\windows win95_02.cab general.txt
  178.  
  179. 3. Change to the Windows directory on your C drive.
  180. 4. At the command prompt, type the following:
  181.  
  182.    edit filename.txt
  183.  
  184.  
  185. UNINSTALLING WINDOWS 95
  186. =======================
  187.  
  188. During Setup, you have the option of saving your system files so 
  189. that you can uninstall Windows 95 later. If you want to be able to 
  190. uninstall Windows 95 later, choose Yes. Setup will save your system 
  191. files in a hidden, compressed file. If you don't need to be able to 
  192. uninstall Windows 95 later, choose No.
  193.  
  194. You will not see this Setup option if:
  195. - You are upgrading over an earlier version of Windows 95.
  196. - You are installing to a new directory.
  197. - You are running a version of MS-DOS earlier than 5.0.
  198.  
  199. NOTE:The uninstall files must be saved on a local hard drive. You  
  200. can't save them to a network drive or a floppy disk. If you have  
  201. multiple local drives, you will be able to select the one you want  
  202. to save the uninstall information on.
  203.  
  204. To uninstall Windows 95 and completely restore your computer to its
  205. previous versions of MS-DOS and Windows 3.x, carry out the following 
  206. procedure:
  207.  
  208. 1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click 
  209.    Control Panel.
  210. 2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  211. 3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Windows 95, and then click 
  212.    Remove.
  213.  
  214. Or, if you are having problems starting Windows 95, use your startup
  215. disk to start your computer, and then run UNINSTAL from the startup
  216. disk.
  217.  
  218. NOTE: The uninstall program needs to shut down Windows 95. If there is 
  219. a problem with this on your computer, restart your computer and press
  220. F8 when you see the message "Starting Windows 95." Then choose Command 
  221. Prompt Only, and run UNINSTAL from the command prompt.

  223. If Windows 95 is running and you want to remove the uninstall files to 
  224. free up 6 to 9 MB of disk space, carry out the following procedure:
  225.  
  226. 1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click 
  227.    Control Panel.
  228. 2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  229. 3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Old Windows 3.x/MS-DOS System
  230.    Files, and then click Remove.

  232. You will no longer be able to uninstall Windows 95.
